Environment and activities in energy efficiency and renewable energy resources area in the Republic of Belarus
Energy security, sustainable use of energy resources, as well as introduction of energy efficient and non-polluting technologies are key principles of development and operation of the Belarusian energy sector.
Reliable functioning and development of fuel and energy complex determines social and economic progress of the country. Belarus has limited domestic primary energy resources. Therefore, improvement of fuel and energy complex structure and upgrading of old and construction of new energy facilities including energy efficient technologies are focus points for energy policy in Belarus.
The basic principles of modernization and development of the Belarusian energy system are as following:
- Diversification of types of fuel and suppliers;
- Diversification and de-centralization of energy sources;
- Development of gas and electricity tranzit systems;
- Development of inter-state energy grid;
- Use of modern energy efficient technologies and equipment;
- Development of energy sources based on local types of fuel and renewables.
